Collections Program

Introduction

The purpose of this program is to preserve, conserve, divulge and protect the work of Javier Marin and other contemporary artists, through the development of three projects: the Collection, Legal Actions in Defense of Artistic Creation, and Exhibitions.

The Collection

This project focuses on cataloguing the Foundation’s collections in a documentary archive, which includes photographic, journalistic and bibliographic records.

Exhibitions

This area involves the management and curation, in collaboration with various institutions and organizations, of exhibitions of Javier Marin’s work and that of other artists and themes, on a national and international level. To date, the Foundation has collaborated in the organization of fifteen exhibitions in Mexico and abroad.

Fábrica de San Pedro Cultural Center

Since 2017, an important part of the Javier Marin Foundation´s efforts have been directed towards the creation of a Cultural Centre -specialized in design, art and gastronomy- in the former Thread and Textile Factory of San Pedro – Fábrica de San Pedro- in the city of Uruapan, Michoacan. To this end, the Foundation has coordinated, together with professionals from the artistic and cultural sphere, an initial program that included art exhibitions, workshops and activities aimed at all audiences, which involved more than thirty-six thousand visitors. For two years (2020-22), the Fábrica closed its doors to the public, to undertake restoration and adaptation works led by the Mexican architect Mauricio Rocha. On April 2022, the Foundation opened the first part of the facilities of this new Cultural Centre with the exhibition “Punto de Partida. Modas, tramas y textiles” (“Starting point. Fashion, fabrics and textiles”) curated by the design specialist, Ana Elena Mallet.
